Newcastle University Development Trust

Established in 1972, the Newcastle University Development Trust receives and invests funds from private donors on behalf of the University.

As a registered charity (no. 528066) the Trust is independent from the University and manages c. £60 million of funds. The board of trustees manages donations to the Trust and acts according to the donor's wishes.

Independent trustees form the majority of the board. The Vice-Chancellor and two trustees appointed by the University Council represent the university.

Recent donations have primarily been obtained through legacy giving. Legacies are invested according to the specific wishes of each donor. Examples of recent funding include:

  • support for PhD studentships in cancer research
  • new senior academic posts in congenital heart disease, liver cancer and cancer trials, particularly in older people
  • Vacation Scholarships and Expeditions

Making a donation to the Development Trust may be appropriate for a larger or more complex donation. Our philanthropy advisors can help you give something back. They will assist you in establishing the best vehicle for your donation.
