Chris Day

Professor Chris Day

Vice-Chancellor and President of Newcastle University

Chris took up the role of Vice-Chancellor and President at Newcastle University in January 2017. Previously a Consultant Hepatologist with an international reputation in medical research, he is a Fellow and former Clinical Vice-President of the Medical Research Council and the Executive of the Medical Schools Council.

Chris is a member of the Universities UK Board and Chair of the Office for Strategic Co-ordination of Health Research (OSCHRH). He is Chair of the N8 Group of Research Universities and Deputy Lieutenant of Tyne and Wear.

Paul Tyack

Director of Advancement

Paul was appointed as Director of Advancement at Newcastle University in January 2021. He is responsible for all of the University's fundraising and alumni relations activities and is executive lead for the Campaign for Newcastle.

Before joining Newcastle, Paul was Head of Institutional Philanthropy at the University of York, securing substantial funding for initiatives ranging from student causes to human rights protection and advanced robotics research. Before moving to the higher education sector, Paul worked in not-for-profit fundraising as Head of Development for the Anne Frank Trust UK.

Paul is a keen musician and is a trustee of the UK's National Centre for Early Music.

Campaign International Advisory Board Chair

The Campaign's International Advisory Board is chaired by Sir Eric Thomas, author of The Thomas Report, a landmark publication for the UK government that set the scene for the successful growth of philanthropy in British higher education.

Sir Eric graduated in medicine from Newcastle University before training as an obstetrician and gynaecologist. He went on to become Dean of Medicine and Biological Sciences at Southampton University before becoming Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bristol,
